Old Skull Games and Game Seer Venture Partners are delighted to reveal that they have entered into a partnership to accompany the growth of the development studio based in Lyon, France. This collaboration marks a significant milestone in the studio’s journey, reflecting its commitment to innovation in service-based, cross-platform gaming.
Over the last decade, Old Skull Games has established a solid reputation in the gaming industry through work-for-hire projects. Its portfolio boasts successful titles like ‘Valiant Hearts: Coming Home’ for Ubisoft & Netflix, and ‘SpongeBob: Patty Pursuit’ in collaboration with Nickelodeon and Apple Arcade. These projects underline the studio’s skillsets in adapting and innovating with established intellectual properties.
Strengthened by increasing demand from its legacy customers, the studio believes it has harnessed a bulk of transposable experiences that could be instrumental to the successful creation of original titles. Historically, numerous established studios like Asobo or Mediatonic have first gathered experience with work-for-hire to subsequently venture into creating games of their own with spectacular critical and commercial traction.
On top of a decade of mobile expertise, the move comes as natural for Old Skull Games to strategically start complementing its knowledge by expanding into PC & console games. As the demand for multiplatform products increases the studio thought vital to prepare its capacities to deliver accordingly with this change. The studio believes strongly it would ensure its ability to continue servicing its partners with a compounded knowledge base and a fully cross-platform offer.
With a current 80 EFTs headcount, working with Game Seer matched well on multiple levels given its hybrid business model for investing in games. The studio was especially satisfied about the following :
Maintaining creative independence in the production of its upcoming original creations
Preserving all IP rights on top of maximizing value retention with a fair and reasonable royalty split
Capacity to decide to self-publish
Possibilities of multi-project financing, including prototype funding.
The strategic and comprehensive package offered by Game Seer came on top of the great chemistry between the founders and the investment team. The decisive element for the studio was to onboard investors who understand their goals, not only financially but mostly from a game design and technological perspective.
Both companies are eager to showcase the exciting projects that have been developed behind the scenes at Old Skull Games. This partnership with Game Seer is just the beginning of a thrilling new chapter in the company’s story.
